In 2007, a friend of mine who was expecting a baby, emailed me pictures
of her son’s ultrasound. Among the pictures was the ultrasound
of a perfect little foot. As I stared at that picture, a thought
started to grow. I printed out the picture, and gathered up the
pictures of my sons’ ultrasounds and started to sketch.
After collecting some basic sketches together, I used polymer clay,
and created the first Angel Foot Charm. I played with varying sizes,
until I came up with one that seemed right. Each foot is approximately
18 mm long, the approximate length of the foot of a baby that is 15 weeks
along in a pregnancy. From there, I made a mold of the polymer
clay charm, and used that to create the first fine silver clay foot.
Each foot is made by hand. It takes approximately three days to complete
all the steps required to make the charm. Each charm consists of
three basic components: the fine silver foot, a sterling silver head
pin and a Swarovski crystal to represent the birthstone of your little
angel.
Each necklace chain, pin, or bracelet chain is made from sterling
silver, to help keep the prices a little more reasonable. The chains
for the bracelets are made by my husband, Tim Landow, who is starting
a line of chain mail jewelry. He hand makes each link out of sterling
silver wire, and then creates each chain out of those links.
